Working With Us
What does Legacy Landscapes do?
We design and build custom outdoor living spaces: landscape design and renovation, landscape lighting, hardscaping, paver patios and walkways, retaining walls, water features and ponds, fire pits, fireplaces, outdoor kitchens, custom decks, pergolas and pavilions, sunken hot tubs and spas, and artificial putting greens.
How does your process work?
Every project follows three steps. Consult: we listen to your needs, ideas and lifestyle, and help shape a plan that fits your goals, space and budget. Design: we create a custom outdoor living design tailored to you. Build: our own team handles construction in-house.
Do you use subcontractors?
No. We handle every part of your project in-house, from design through construction. With 18 years of experience, our team has stayed the same, which keeps the quality and the work consistent from project to project.
What is the difference between a Landscape Consultation and a Design Consultation?
Choose a Landscape Consultation to walk the property with us and talk through what you want to change. Choose a Design Consultation when you are ready to plan the space in detail. You can tell us which one fits on our consultation request form.
Do I see a plan before anything gets built?
Yes. We design the space first, with a plan that shows where the patio, plantings, walls, lighting and paths go and how they work together. Then our own crews build it, so the design you approve is the yard you get.
What areas do you serve?
We serve homeowners across Eastern Washington and North Idaho, including Spokane, Medical Lake, Moses Lake, Kennewick, Pasco and Richland in Washington, and Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls and Sandpoint in Idaho.
Planning Your Project
Can you renovate a yard that already has a patio or water feature?
Yes. A landscape renovation starts with a plan for the whole space instead of patching one corner at a time. We keep what is worth keeping, take out what isn’t, and design the rest around how you want to use the yard now.
My yard is on a slope. Can you still build a usable space?
Yes. A well-placed retaining wall turns a slope into level ground you can use for a patio, a lawn, a garden bed or a better view. We build natural stone and boulder walls, curved and terraced walls, and decorative walls, and we can take out and rebuild an old wall that is leaning or failing.
Do you plan for Spokane’s climate?
Yes. We choose plants that handle hot, dry summers and cold winters, plan grades and drainage, and put hardscape where it will hold up. Our crews excavate, compact and grade every base for drainage, which matters where the ground freezes and thaws all winter.
Do you check for buried utility lines before digging?
Yes. Before any digging, we have the site located through Call 811 so buried lines are marked.
Features and Materials
What decking materials do you work with?
We work with a range of materials, from classic wood to low-maintenance composite, so you get the look you want with durability that holds up through Spokane’s cold winters and dry summer heat. We also build decks around hot tubs and install lighting in deck steps, posts and railings.
Do you build gas or wood-burning fire pits?
Both. Whether you want a sleek gas fire pit surrounded by a built-in seating wall or a rugged stone wood-burning pit with a natural feel, we design it to fit the surrounding hardscape and your lifestyle. We also build outdoor fireplaces, from traditional masonry to modern finishes.
What can you build into an outdoor kitchen?
Built-in grills and prep stations, refrigerators, sinks and bar seating. We work with you on a layout that fits your space and how you cook and entertain, and our team handles the cabinetry, countertops, utility hookups and the hardscape around it.
Can I have a water feature without a pond?
Yes. Along with custom ponds and waterfalls, we build pondless waterfalls, bubbling boulders and fountains, shaped around the scale of your property. Underwater and accent lighting can keep the water and stone on display after dark.
What landscape lighting do you install?
We design custom lighting plans for pathways, patios, decks, driveways, steps, trees and outdoor living areas, from pathway lights and uplighting to accent fixtures, using durable, weather-resistant fixtures built for the Inland Northwest climate.
How is a sunken hot tub different from a standard hot tub?
A sunken hot tub or spa is set into the landscape instead of sitting above it, surrounded by stone or tile, lighting and plantings. Our team handles the excavation, plumbing, surrounding hardscape and finishing details.
