What the Backyard Was Missing

When Bob and Mary Dunn came to us, they knew exactly what their backyard wasn’t — and had a clear picture of what it could be.

Their existing outdoor space felt too small, too limiting, and past its prime. The old water feature was leaking and nowhere near the scale they had in mind. What they dreamed of was something far more ambitious: a stunning new water feature, an outdoor kitchen, a sunken hot tub, and a significantly expanded paver patio.

There was also an existing circular staircase that needed to be woven naturally into whatever came next — all while preserving and framing their breathtaking view of Spokane.

Where Form Meets Function

We got to work, and the results pushed beyond the ordinary. The outdoor kitchen became one of the project’s standout achievements — not just a cooking space, but a structural retaining wall supporting the upper raised patio, where form and function came together seamlessly. LED strip lighting installed beneath the countertops gave the kitchen a warm, welcoming glow perfect for evening gatherings.

The new water feature and fire pit were positioned with intention, placed so they could be seen and enjoyed from every angle of the outdoor living space.

To bring the whole experience together, we designed and installed a full outdoor stereo system — present throughout the space, never overwhelming, and controllable right from a smartphone so Bob and Mary can set the mood for any occasion.

A View Worth Coming Home To

By weaving each of these elements together through our five signature principles of design, we turned an underperforming backyard into something Bob and Mary are genuinely proud of.

The space works as hard as it looks good — functional, beautiful, and built around the way they actually live. And framing it all? Those sweeping views of Spokane, now showcased exactly as they deserve to be.
